My Letters to Rilke – Number 4

Dear R,

Your fig tree,
The one that meant a lot to you,
What happened to it,
What came of the hero?

My fig tree,
The one I grew up with,
The one that hid the boy next door among its wide leaves,
The one that I marked my little brother’s height on,
The fig tree that was so real then, is now only a dream!

No blossoms,
No hero,
Just a dream,
A dream that I cannot even share with a child I will never have!

Fig Tree, Paul Klee

*Inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke's Duino Elegie (the sixth elegy) part of the Letters to Rilke, my sequence in process.

Thank you Roja for your beautiful poem! Rilke mentions the fig tree one other time, when a fruit bearing fig tree feels the wind coming from afar.

SONG OF THE SEA - Rilke, 1907

Timeless sea breezes,
sea-wind of the night:
you come for no one;
if someone should wake,
he must be prepared
how to survive you.

Timeless sea breezes,
that for aeons have
blown ancient rocks,
you are purest space
coming from afar...

Oh, how a fruit-bearing
fig tree feels your coming
high up in the moonlight.

Sorry I don't get it. It feels you got a bit nostalgic reading Rilke.

Anyhow, the main reason I am commenting on this poem is that I sent you 3 emails and I got no response. So I have no choice but to ask you here: Don't you want to meet?

Let me know.
D.

Dear Till,
Thanks for bringing "Song for the Sea" to my attention.

Masoud Jan,
Thanks! This piece is in close to the childhood spirit of Hamind Mosadegh Piece.

Siavash Jan,
There is a selected translation of Rilke's poetry in Farsi. It should be good. I will try to find more details on it.

Dear Don,
Nostalgia is a powerful source in my personal verses.

Regarding the emails: sorry for the delay in responding. I have been busy. Will get to it soon.
